This casebook uses case studies to demonstrate the value of evaluation as a learning approach. Each case study includes information about the evaluation, evaluation design, implementation, benefits of evaluation and lessons learned to highlight key take-away messages from each initiative.

Steps for Using Method/Tool

The casebook highlights five general lessons as outlined in the case studies:

  1. Plan evaluation from the beginning of the initiative.
  2. Involve stakeholders in shaping the evaluation.
  3. Collect data that is useful and available.
  4. Bring people together for shared learning and reflection.
  5. Create a culture that enables evaluation for learning.

These summaries are written by the NCCMT to condense and to provide an overview of the resources listed in the Registry of Methods and Tools and to give suggestions for their use in a public health context.
