The NCCMT’s Guide to Quality Assessment of Public Health Evidence

You’ve found evidence relevant to your public health question, so what’s next? Now, you need to assess the quality of your evidence. Is it good enough to inform your decision making?

First, you will need to identify the type of evidence, then choose an appropriate quality assessment tool, but with public health evidence, this may not be so simple.

The NCCMT’s Guide to Quality Assessment of Public Health Evidence simplifies the critical questions:

1.    What type of evidence are you appraising?

2.    Which quality assessment tool is most suitable for the evidence?

This guide is not meant to be comprehensive of all types of evidence and quality assessment tools. Always use your best judgement, and when in doubt, you can meet with an NCCMT Knowledge Broker during KB Virtual Office Hours.
