Keep e-mails from NCCMT from getting caught in spam or junk filters

Are e-mails from NCCMT appearing in your spam or junk folder? You can train your mail program to allow them into your inbox.

Here’s how to whitelist e-mails from NCCMT for some popular mail programs: Outlook, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, and Apple Mail

Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007

  1. On the "Tools" menu, click on "Options".
  2. On the "Preferences" tab, click "Junk E-mail".
  3. On the "Safe Senders" tab, click "Add".
  4. Add "nccmt@mcmaster.ca" where it says "Add address". Click "OK".

Outlook Express

  1. On the "Tools" menu, select "Message Rules", and then "Mail".
  2. Click the "New" button. This will take you to the "New Mail Rule" screen, where you can set new mailing rules for your account.
  3. Under "Select the conditions for your rules: ", check the "Where the From line contains people" checkbox.
  4. Check the "Delete it" box in the list of actions, which will cause all non-approved e-mails to be deleted. If you would like to send them to a separate folder instead of deleting them, mark off the "Move it to the specified folder" box (Note: If you're going to use this rule, you first need to create a folder to quarantine these messages).
  5. Under "Rule Description", click on the link "contains people".
  6. Enter "nccmt@mcmaster.ca", then press OK when done.
  7. Click the "Options" button in the "Select People" screen, then click the "Message does not contain the people below" button, and the "Message matches any one of the people below" button.
  8. Click "OK."

Google Mail (Gmail)

  1. If you find emails from us in your Gmail spam folder, select them and click the "Not Spam" button.
  2. Next, click on "Contacts".
  3. Add "nccmt@mcmaster.ca" to your Contacts list.

Yahoo! Mail

  1. If you find emails from NCCMT are going to your Yahoo! Mail bulk folder, open these emails and click the "Not Spam" button.
  2. Next, go to "Options" and click on "Contacts".
  3. Add "nccmt@mcmaster.ca".

Windows Live Hotmail

  1. If you find emails from NCCMT are going to your Hotmail junk folder, open these emails and click the "Not Junk" button.
  2. Go to "Options".
  3. Under "Junk e-mail", click on "Safe and blocked senders".
  4. Next, click on "Blocked Senders". If you find "nccmt@mcmaster.ca" on your Hotmail blocked senders list, select them and click on the "Remove" button.
  5. Return to "Safe and blocked senders" and now click on "Safe senders".
  6. Add "nccmt@mcmaster.ca" to this list.

Apple Mail for OS X

  1. If you find emails from NCCMT are going to the junk folder, highlight or open them and click "Not Junk" at the top of your screen.
  2. Then under "Mail" menu, select "Preferences".
  3. Go to the "Rules" tab.
  4. Select "Add Rule".
  5. Give this rule a custom name, e.g. "NCCMT".
  6. Create a rule that says "If any of the following conditions are met: 'From' 'Contains'" and enter "nccmt@mcmaster.ca".
