Description

This critical appraisal tool consists of 17 questions categorized into eight sections, at the end of which users decide whether or not to use the evidence. The module is intended for public health professionals to strengthen their skills in appraisal. It walks users through different scenarios in which they can practise their appraisal skills.

In this module, users apply each criterion of the critical appraisal approach to a scenario. Users go through the 17 questions to determine the overall methodological quality of the intervention study.

The module includes the following steps for applying critical appraisal criteria:

  1. Read the article and complete the answer sheet.
  2. Determine if the results are valid.
  3. Determine the results.
  4. Determine how to apply the results.
  5. Resolve the scenario.

These summaries are written by the NCCMT to condense and to provide an overview of the resources listed in the Registry of Methods and Tools and to give suggestions for their use in a public health context.
